Madeleine McCanns Parents Keep Her Plight In The Media

We can say what we want about Kate & Gerry McCann, but what we can't say is that they have done their best to slip away un-noticed. Even with all the negative media attention centring on their possible involvement in their daughters disappearance, and the continuous hazy claims made by the original investigating Portuguese police officers about their involvement, Madeleine's parents have remained steadfast on the trail of their little girl, thrusting themselves into the spotlight to publicise their daughters plight at any given opportunity. In the past week an appearance on Oprah, along with the release of a picture showing what Madeleine may look like now, at almost 6 years old, have been used by the McCanns to mark the 2 year anniversary of her disappearance.

THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW APPEARANCE
Kate & Gerry's interview with Oprah was shown on Monday in the US, and from Tuesday in the UK, and in it their anguish was all too vivid. Glimpses that showed how time has worn them down to some degree were there, but even so, the message they wanted to get out there was not to give up on their little girl, because they feel that she is still out there to be found. Gerry said that they don't believe in ever throwing in the towel in the search for Madeleine, but they did reveal much about the painful 2 years they have just been through. Kate spoke about how the couple had to remain un-emotional publicly, on advice from a behavioural expert, and even though the media had castigated her for being this way, she explained how she was able to keep it up; "when you get the feeling that if you do it could be detrimental in some way to your daughter, there's a huge pressure on you to do well". Throughout the interview, recorded in April, they described feeling "absolute helplessness" over Madeleine's disappearance.

THE NEW IMAGE RELEASED
The McCanns used the Oprah show appearance to unveil a new image of Madeleine, an 'age-progression' picture showing what she may look like now, aged 6. The image was made up by an artist at the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children with the help of photos of Kate and Gerry, also at 6 years of age. This, it was explained, would give the most realistic picture of how she may have aged in the 2 years since her disappearance, if she is still alive. The parents were quick to point out that this is the kind of child we should be now looking out for. The strange shape in her right eye should also be a tell-tale sign if someone does recognise a child as possibly being her, and with this new appeal, lets hope some new information emerges that might help find out what has happened to a sweet little girl who has captured the hearts of millions.

THE UPCOMING CHANNEL 4 DOCUMENTARY
On Thursday this week the excellent Channel 4 'Cutting Edge' documentary series will air a special episode trying to piece together what actually happened in the small Portuguese coastal town of Praia da Luz two years ago. The film, Madeleine Was Here, follows Kate and Gerry out to the resort where Madeleine went missing, and also sees two other members of the 'Tapas 9' out there too, Jane Tanner and Matthew Oldfield, but the film will center on the investigations of Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley, the private detectives hired by the McCanns to do their own independent investigation. They sift through the 30,000 files of the police investigation, now released to the public and translated into english by the investigating team, and 1 crucial piece of evidence emerges. A statement by a local describing a sighting of a man carrying a small blond girl, just after the infamous sighting reported by Jane Tanner 2 years ago. Both descriptions of the men were similar, but Portuguese police never put any importance on this newly publicised sighting. The investigators believe that someone in Praia da Luz knows what happened, because they are sure that the McCanns were being watched before Madeleines disappearance. They feel that Madeleine was taken in a planned kidnap to order.
